I was asked to create a new mark for a new division of the luxury home furnishings company, Lush Decor. “Studio J,” named for the woman who will head the initiative, will become a design space for new designers to contribute innovative work. The challenge was adding the “J,” which is why I was brought in. I included two other designs, unfortunately not accepted but were contenders. Many designers will contribute to the studio. Using the “j” alone as a mark would make it more inclusive, not tying directly to one person. As for the script version, the hand-drawn font visually tied the entire logo to my eye. I also helped them refine the existing logo, selecting a new font that spoke more to the brand and creating versions for different uses, small and large, for mobile, desktop, and print.
